They were everywhere, he could feel them.

At first it had just been a vague sense of someone like himself being not too far, someone with a special ability within hands reach. So tempting, yet the feeling was still too scrambled to actually point an exact location. It was so frustrating to know that the powers were so near, yet untouchable.

That was weeks ago though, his own power had developed and it was like a sixth sense now. They were indeed everywhere and he didn't just felt it, he knew it. From miles away he could sense them and had he been interested he'd have their heads cut open within seconds, devouring the power and leaving the former owner for dead. But he wasn't interested in them all, not yet. He was on a mission. There were some powers that were far more significant than others, tugging his sense and teasing his desires. One of them was walking only a good 50 feet in front of him.

Sylar dug his hands deeper inside his pockets as he fastened his pace. A baseball cap was shrouding most of his face in shadow as he moved swiftly towards his target. He couldn't do anything yet, not here, in the park. Not that any of the people jogging, biking or running alongside him could do him any harm, he was more powerful than all of them combined. But he didn't want to attract any unwanted attention, thus decided to keep following his victim and wait with the attack until they had reached a less crowded area.

It wasn't long until they left the open space of the park and made their ways alongside deserted buildings and through back alleys. The sound of one pair of footsteps echoed through the small streets. If his victim was to turn around Sylar would no longer have a very likeable excuse as to why he was walking the exact same route, but he knew he'd think of something. Half the fun of killing after all was what happened before it. The observing, near stalking, and the discovery of what made his victims tick.

An expression that could only be described as a smile appeared upon his face as the distance between himself and his victim decreased. It was now or never.

tick, tock, tick, tock.

Peter knew the guy was following him. He was even fairly certain who it was. One didn't forget the face of someone they'd tackled, jumped off a building with and then acted as a cushion for their fall. Dying as a very intimate act. He waited to turn around until they were in alley, some place where innocent bystanders wouldn't get hurt.

Finally he stopped, glanced over his shoulder then turned around. "Don't I know you from somewhere?" he asked.

Sylar looked up, no longer merely staring at the shadow of Peter falling over the dirty street stones of New York City, but facing him instead. He didn't instantly answer the question, instead he removed a hand from his pocket and in less than a fragment of a second Peter was pinned to the nearest wall. His feet were dangling in the air as Sylar approached. He smirked as he pressed his arm against the throat of his seemingly helpless victim.

"We've met", was all he said in reply to the man's query.

He felt it was pointless and a waste of time to spill any more words on the matter. After all, this would soon be over. The floundering of the feet would stop and they would fall lifeless on the ground. But before that would happen he wanted to look Peter deep into his eyes, see his fear, but most of all uncover the man's design. He moved his face closer and narrowed his eyes, it only took a few seconds for him to find that what he was looking for.

When he had seen enough he clacked his tongue and took a step backwards, loosening the firm grip he had on Peter's throat. Moving his right hand up, a thin straight line started to appear on his opponent's forehead; small drops of blood dripping from the incision onto his face.

It took Peter a moment to get his fear under control. It clawed at the inside of his throat, made his stomach roil and burn but the sight of the blood washed a calm over him. Almost instinctively the regenerative power took over and the incision started healing.

Peter set his jaw and held a hand out, using Sylar's own power against him and tossing him up against a wall. "I'm not that easy any more, Sylar. We've met...remember?"

A low grunt escaped Sylar's lips as he felt the force pressed against his stomach pushing him backwards. He hadn't felt the impact of his own power first-hand before and he wasn't pleased with this new experience at all.

Viewing Peter's design had not given him the full insight into the workings of the power of his opponent, but Sylar was a smart man and quickly put one and one together. The incision healing looked an awful lot like Claire Bennet's regeneration power and the force pushing him away was his own telekinetic ability used against him. Peter was a lot like himself, 'borrowing' other people's powers, except he apparently didn't have to go through the messy process of cutting heads open to gain said abilities. A very useful power indeed and Sylar wasn't about to let this opportunity slip through his eager fingers. Peter might have a shared power, but Sylar's had it longer and was able to control it much better; or so he assumed.

Ignoring the stabbing pain in his back, inflicted by the connection he'd made with the wall, he quickly moved his hand upwards again; faster than before and before Peter knew what hit him he was spinning a few feet above the ground.

Peter actually laughed a little. It took him a few minutes to get his bearings, a though of Nathan and Peter shot up a few feet higher so that he was hovering about eight feet up in the air.

"And I know a couple of things you don't know about." He was wasting time, stalling until he could figure out exactly what to do with Sylar. Right now the prevailing plan was grab him, take him up very high and drop him. He just didn't know for certain if it would work.

Startled Sylar released his grip on Peter as the other man shot several feet more into the air. He had momentarily forgotten that Nathan Petrelli was Peter's brother and that obviously Peter had acquired the power to fly as well. It was unexpected, but it wasn't something Sylar couldn't work with. On contrary, it only made him more eager to gain Peter's abilities, because after all, the power of flight could be a real asset in his future plans.

The unexpected turn of events merely meant Sylar had to take a different approach in things, handle the situation a little more 'delicate' than usual. After all, he didn't want to risk his prey to just fly off. No matter how powerful Sylar was, he was also rational and he knew that not even when using his telekinetic powers would he be able to keep up with Peter. And having to find him all over again would be such a waste of his precious time.

So instead of forcing Peter down, or flinging his body against the nearest building, he crossed his arms in front of his chest to show he wasn't going to hurt the man. Calm he looked up at his opponent having fun a few feet up in the air and waited for him to come down on his own terms.

"I think we started off on the wrong foot", he said with a low voice. "Lets talk."

Peter chuckled. "You mean with you trying to cut my head open...yeah...I'd say that's the wrong foot. What exactly do we have to talk about?"

"You've got something I want", Sylar simply stated. He'd always learned it was better to just be upfront, instead of hiding the truth by pretty words. "And you're going to give it me", he continued, "voluntarily."

He didn't gave the other man time to argue with him, instead he told him his deal. "You see, I know you, Peter. You're always willing to offer someone else a helping hand, put their needs in front of your own. You want to save them and I am going to give you the opportunity to do so, you're finally going to get the possibility to be special."

Sylar paused a moment, looking at Peter, hoping to see that glint in the man's eyes that would show he was considering Sylar's words.

"You know what it is I want, and I can promise you, if you give it to me, I will not kill anyone else. After all, I can get all the powers I've ever wanted without hurting a soul."

He smirked as he saw the change on Peter's face. This was the former nurse's ultimate test, how much did he really care about saving people?

"So what will it be Peter? Will you give me your power voluntarily or will I have to use force? Because I can guarantee you, I will eventually get what I want, no matter what."

Peter looked down at Sylar, a growing fear in the pit of his stomach. He was going to go after Nathan and Claire...again. That much was pretty clear. He'd have been able to guess that even before this little meeting.

The temptation was there. Sacrifice himself and no one else gets hurt. It was only a bonus that it would also stop the explosion of New York City. But then again, maybe Sylar would be the one to explode and there would be no one who could or would stop it, including Sylar himself.

"What do you plan to do with all these powers once you have them? How do you even know your body can handle them?"

So the last question was selfish. If he made it out of this alive maybe Sylar could tell him exactly how to keep from exploding.

A feeling of confidence spread though Sylar's body, which was dangerous because it made him arrogant; reckless. But when he looked up at Peter he saw a slight change on the man's face. It was faint, but it was there nonetheless and if he knew the other man well enough he could define it as doubt. Peter loved his family more than himself and he was actually considering Sylar's offer.

It seemed like his plan was succeeding. All there was left to do was put just a little more pressure on Peter's shoulder, so he would give an answer soon, without having the time to escape or come up with something else to ruin Sylar's plans.

"Oh I can handle them", he replied cocky. "And what I plan to do with my powers is nothing of your concern. Make your choice now, or I'll withdraw my generous offer."

It was the cockiness that made him go the other way. Any one that power hungry wasn't likely to use the power for anything good.

Peter smirked, cockiness of his own slipping across his face. "Sorry, Sylar, I've promised a couple of really important people in my life that I'd avoid doing the dying thing. Touch the people I love and I promise I'll find a way to end you."

He didn't stick around to see what Sylar's other powers were even though it was tempting. Instead he shot up into the air, straight up into the clouds, breaking the sound barrier as he did.

ooc: And at this point that's all Peter would do. This was fun! though.
